It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Sergeant First Class John Basa, who departed peacefully in his sleep. His loss is felt profoundly by all who knew him, particularly within The Army Band community, where he formed lasting bonds of friendship, respect, and shared service.
SFC Basa will be remembered as a devoted soldier and a valued member of the military family. His commitment to duty, professionalism, and quiet strength defined his service and left a meaningful mark on those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. Beyond his accomplishments in uniform, John was known for his warm spirit and uplifting presence. His cheerful personality brought light to those around him, and his ability to connect with others made him a trusted friend and colleague.
John also embraced life with a sense of adventure. He found joy in hang gliding over the cliffs of Monterey, a reflection of his free spirit and appreciation for life’s beauty. Even in the face of past health challenges, including his battle with neck cancer and subsequent complications, he demonstrated resilience and courage that inspired those who knew his journey.
He leaves behind his beloved daughters, his longtime partner Donna, and many family members and friends who will cherish his memory. During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to all who are grieving his loss.
