The Spokane community is grieving the tragic death of Dylan Bundy-Gray, 44, who was fatally shot while intervening to protect a woman from harassment on the morning of March 22. Bundy-Gray, a devoted father and amateur boxer, lost his life in what began as an ordinary Sunday morning in North Spokane.
According to authorities, around 7 a.m., a woman walking along East Wellesley Avenue reported being followed and harassed by two teenage boys. From his front porch, Dylan stepped in to defend her, confronting the teens and attempting to stop their harassment. During the ensuing altercation in the street, police allege that 16-year-old Onyx Deligt fired a handgun six times, striking Dylan. Bundy-Gray’s bravery ultimately cost him his life. Another teenager involved in the incident was injured in the hand and treated at a local hospital.
Dylan’s wife expressed the family’s shock and grief during a court hearing, stating, “I am now a widow and the sole parent of our four boys, all still in school. We continue to be shocked that Dylan was shot and killed on an otherwise normal Sunday morning.” His brother, Ian, also shared on social media: “He was having a morning coffee on his porch when he saw a couple of young men chasing and harassing a high school girl. He stepped in to protect her. My brother was an amateur boxer, but the best hands are no match for a coward with a gun.”
Onyx Deligt appeared before Spokane County Commissioner Jerry Scharosch, facing charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault. Due to the severity of the incident, Deligt is being charged as an adult, with bond set at $1 million. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the teen fleeing the scene as sirens approached.
The loss of Dylan Bundy-Gray has left a profound impact on his family and the wider Spokane community. He is remembered as a courageous man who acted selflessly to protect another, embodying the true spirit of a good Samaritan. His legacy of bravery, care, and compassion will be remembered by all who knew him.
