It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Miss Laurie Elizabeth McGee, age 63, of Mount Airy, who peacefully departed this life on March 26, 2026, at Surry Community Health and Rehab. Her passing is mourned by family, friends, and all who were touched by her life, leaving a lasting imprint of faith, kindness, and dedication.
Laurie was born on July 30, 1962, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Edward Lee McGee, Jr. and Sarah Hegler McGee. She graduated in 1980 from Mount Airy High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church, Laurie dedicated herself to her faith and her community. Her compassion, gentle spirit, and warm presence were evident to all who knew her, whether through her church involvement or her daily acts of kindness.
Laurie is survived by her brother-in-law, Mark H. Towe, and her special friend and caregiver, Donna Krause, who provided unwavering support and companionship. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Anne McGee Towe, her brother Alan McGee, and her nephew Zachary Towe.
A private service will be held at a later date to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church continue to be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The Moody Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
