It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former legislator Ralph Metcalf, who departed this life last Saturday. A dedicated public servant, Ralph devoted many years to improving the lives of others through his steadfast leadership and commitment to the people of North Dakota.
Elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives in 1998, Ralph proudly represented the Democratic-NPL Party in District 24 for fourteen years, serving until 2012. During his tenure, he earned a reputation as a principled and effective leader who worked tirelessly to advocate for his constituents and to advance meaningful legislation. His efforts played a significant role in projects that brought lasting benefit to the state, including the construction of the Veterans Home in Lisbon and the reconstruction and upgrade of the State Penitentiary in Bismarck.
Ralph’s dedication extended beyond policy; he was deeply committed to the well-being of the people he served. He approached his role with integrity, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference. His voice in the legislature reflected both strength and thoughtfulness, and his contributions continue to have a lasting impact on communities across District 24 and the state as a whole.
Beyond his public service, Ralph will be remembered for his character, humility, and unwavering sense of duty. He leaves behind a legacy of service that will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
