It is with profound sadness that we remember Shea Haughey, a talented and spirited young footballer who passed away on Monday. Shea, aged twelve, was a pupil at St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School in Newry and a valued member of both Ballyholland Harps GAC and Midway United FC. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of family, friends, teammates, and the wider sporting community.
Shea was the beloved son of Claire and David, a devoted brother to Rebecca and Evie, and a cherished grandson of Mary and Martin Keenan, and Vera and David Haughey. Those who knew him fondly recall his joyful nature and the warmth he brought into every room he entered. Social media tributes have described Shea as “a happy, smiling child who brightened every room,” “a great wee man,” “such a bright, happy boy,” and a child who “poured his heart into his sport.” His infectious enthusiasm, kindness, and genuine love for life left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Shea’s passion for football was evident in his dedication to his teams and his love of the game. He approached every practice and match with energy, focus, and a true team spirit, inspiring his teammates and coaches alike.
